What is Inner Child Therapy
?
As the title indicates, this
is a method of therapy wherein the Inner Child (We all have one!) can be
accessed, and negative thinking, unwelcome behaviour, traumas, etc gently
and positively can be addressed. The Child within all of us is a delightful
part of us, a spontaneous, mischievous, sparkling part of our personality.
The contra aspect is that the child within can throw tantrums, behave
unreasonably or inappropriately. The child within is secondary to the adult
personality and controlled by the adult will, however sometimes
unconsciously, we allow the inner child to take control of certain areas of
our life. By accessing the inner child through hypnosis we can encourage the
adult side to take back their rightful dominant position. Where appropriate
the therapist can also utilize inner child therapy to address any childhood
trauma or damage. If there has been negative conditioning in childhood, ie
the child continually told he/she is "Stupid", "hopeless", or "you will
never amount to much " etc the adult could have low self esteem/worth, and
never believe they can achieve; if they do achieve, they will class it as an
accident, or a lucky mistake etc. It is important to replace negative
childhood conditioning with positive, and to allow the adult
personality/will to be in control, not the damaged and defensive child.
Inner child work is a powerful tool indeed and frees and releases hidden
agenda areas within that perpetuate into life long unhappiness if not dealt
with.
A good therapist in this area will work sensitively and positively
encouraging the adult and child within to work together.
Regression is the going back in life, across the divide of time, to look
at distant and old experiences and understand them with/from a different
perspective.
Consistently I have found that a problem exhibited today (especially phobias
and compulsive behaviours) has its roots in childhood experiences that
cannot now be recalled. Through age regression I take the client back to the
root cause of the presenting problem. They find the root cause for
themselves and often express surprise afterwards that this was something
they had no present-day memory of.
They re-live the event as though it were happening right now but this time
they also have their adult perspectives, experience and knowledge to enable
them to deal with it in a way that the child couldn't. The root cause may
seem trivial to an adult but to the child it would have been overwhelming.
The client resolves the root cause and the present day problem evaporates,
never to return.
Hypnoanalysis is an analytical process that takes place during
hypnotherapy to discover past influences easily.
HYPNOTHERAPY and HYPNOANALYSIS
can help with a wide range of problems, some of which are listed below:
Phobias: A phobia is a persistent, abnormal, or irrational fear of a
specific thing or situation. (Typical examples mice, spiders, heights, open
spaces, flying, snakes, being shut in.)
Relationships: Divorce, Bereavement & loss, Separation, Shyness
Examinations: Driving test, Public speaking, Interviews, Lack of confidence
Habit disorders: Alcohol abuse, Blushing, Drug abuse, Insomnia, Irrational
fears/worries, Smoking, Dentistry
Self or Body image: Appetite disorders, Anorexia, Bulimia, Obesity, Skin
conditions, Overweight, Depression
Sexuality: Ante-natal training, Gynaecological problems, Sexual problems
such as frigidity or impotence, Labour pain management, PMT, Peri-menopausal
problems
Generalised Anxiety Disorder: People with this disorder feel anxious most of
the time. They worry excessively about routine events or circumstances in
their lives, and although they recognise this as irrational or out of
proportion to actual events, they feel unable to control their worrying.
Panic disorder: An intense, overpowering surge of fear (panic attacks) which
may be brought on by being confronted with the source of a phobia, or may be
brought on for no apparent reason at all. Because people with this disorder
cannot predict when their attacks will strike, they develop anxiety about
having additional panic attacks and so they may limit their activities
outside their home environment.
Obsessive-Compulsive Disorder: People with this disorder persistently
experience certain intrusive thought or images (obsessions) or feel
compelled to perform certain behaviours (compulsions). Common compulsions
are repetitive hand-washing or always having to check if lights or the
cooker etc. have been turned off, or returning to check if doors have been
locked. This activity can interfere with their ability to function and may
consume a great deal of time.
Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder: This disorder sometimes occurs after people
experience traumatic or catastrophic events, such as physical or sexual
assault, natural disasters or accidents. They relive the traumatic event
through recurrent dreams or flash-backs. They avoid things or places
associated with the trauma and may feel emotionally detached or estranged
from others. Other symptoms may include difficulty in sleeping,
irritability, and trouble concentrating.
Within the practice I encounter and deal sensitively with many diverse
problems. The success rate of hypnotherapy is impressive, with many clients
now happy and healthy, having achieved their goals and broadened their
horizons, both physically and mentally. All that is required of the client
is an open mind, honesty and a willingness to succeed and put in the
required effort, some of the issues listed above may be dealt with very
rapidly, while others may require long term work.

Past lives, do they exist? Some believe it, some don't. Does the soul go
through many lives and if so why don't most of us remember them?
The belief in reincarnation was around at the time of Christ and persisted
in various forms within Christianity until it was declared a heresy at the
Council of Nice in 533AD. It still has a role in all the other major
(particularly Eastern) religions.
Within my practice I have used past life therapy very successfully to help
people search for answers and solutions to difficulties in their own life.
I offer no judgment or explanation other than to say that if it helps the
client does it matter if it was a real past life experience or just an
imagined story? We all carry inside us experiences and observations that if
we only knew how could help us to make sense of what is happening in our
lives right now, past life therapy can sometimes be the tool to do this, and
some may choose to believe that the experiences extend beyond the life we
are living now, others may not.
What is Neuro Linguistic Programming?:
Neuro Linguistic Programming (NLP) is a model of communication that focuses
on identifying and using patterns of thought that influence a person’s
behaviour as a means of improving the quality and effectiveness of their
lives. It offers a paradigm of how the brain works (neuro), about how
language interacts with the brain (linguistic), and how we use this
interaction to get the results we want for ourselves and others
(programming). It is an effective, proven vehicle for accelerated human
change, radically altering the “old way” of lengthy psychotherapy.
NLP was initially created by linguist Dr. John Grinder and computer
scientist and Gestalt therapist Dr. Richard Bandler. Together they produced
a linguistic model that identified the language patterns of a few gifted
individuals such as hypnotherapist Milton Erickson, MD., Fritz Perls of
Gestalt therapy, anthropologist Gregory Bateson and Virginia Satir of family
systems therapy. The synthesis of their findings, a blend of cognitive and
behavioural science, resulted in the technology known as Neuro Linguistic
Programming. In the 20+ years since it was first developed, NLP has grown,
changed and expanded, and it continues to do so today.
Parts Therapy is another term used to describe NLP
What is the difference between stage hypnotism and hypnotherapy?
The main difference is that stage hypnotists are entertainers and are
only able to work with a very small percentage of their audience, while
hypnotherapists are trying to achieve any number of different things with
their client and can work with the majority of people in the world today.
Stage hypnotists must choose people who are both extrovert and highly
suggestible and they are expert at tricking their subjects into believing
false scenarios or that they are in the hypnotists power and have no free
will to resist. A hypnotherapist wants their client to believe in their own
power and abilities.

Can everybody be Hypnotized?
Everybody who wants to be hypnotized can be, it has nothing to do with
whether you're strong minded or not, its about the persons willingness to
work with me to achieve the results what they want. Even if a person is a
bit skeptical it doesn't matter, it's only natural, what does matter is that
the person wants it to work and will give it his/her best shot to make it
work.

What does it feel like to be Hypnotized?
The only feeling you have when you are Hypnotized, is a feeling of
relaxation. At no time will you ever feel out of control, under my control
or under anything!! In fact you are always aware of where you are, what I am
saying and you are always in control throughout the whole time. Rather than
Hypnosis being a magic spell it is simply an effective clinical procedure.
In fact all Hypnosis is self Hypnosis, You simply allow your self to let go
and just relax. Forget about the stage Hypnotists they're nothing to do with
us!

How long will it take?
Unlike conventional therapy like Psychiatry or Psychoanalysis, which can
take a few years, Hypnotherapy is a quick solution based therapy, which
deals with the problem immediately. Treatments are usually only one to five
sessions depending on the problem.

For therapy to work you
have to want it to work, and you have to be open minded. The truth is, for
therapy to work you have to be committed to trying something different . If
you think you'll try it for one session to see if it works you'll be wasting
your time. (You wouldn't only do one day of a weeks antibiotic course would
you!!) For therapy to be successful you have to follow the course and do the
exercises I show you. If you wont do that then forget it!

Think positively and you will get positive results. If you go into this
thinking you haven't got the willpower or strength to succeed then your
beliefs will govern your actions, and you'll get the outcome you predicted
for yourself. Basically the more effort you put in the more you'll get out.
Remember every change you've made happened in a moment, what took time was
getting ready to change!!!

Will I lose control?
Contrary to what you see in the movies and stage shows, hypnosis is a
consensual state. You are always in complete control the entire time and you
will not do or say anything that violates your basic moral or ethical
principles. You are free to disregard or refuse any suggestion made by your
hypnotherapist at any time. Very simply, you are the boss.

Hollywood likes the image
of a sinister hypnotist turning people into unconscious zombies. Nothing
could be further from the truth. The truth is that in hypnosis, even in the
most relaxed states, the client is more aware of everything that happens and
every word said. You will be amazed that you can remember every detail of
your sessions clearly. All hypnosis is self-hypnosis, and you always
maintain your memory.

I've been told I'm a poor subject and can't be hypnotized. Will this work
for me?
Hypnosis is a natural state that people go in and out of spontaneously
all the time. Every time you watch a movie or read a novel, and find
yourself emotionally involved in the plot or characters, you are in
hypnosis. Any time you rehearse some task you have to do in your own mind,
you are in a light hypnotic state. Everyone has the capacity to go into
natural hypnosis. Sometimes nervousness about what might happen makes it a
little harder for some people to enter a guided hypnotic state, but with a
little relaxation and practice, anyone can achieve a perfectly adequate
level of relaxation for hypnotherapy.
What are some other things Hypnosis can be used for?
Hypnosis has many, many other therapeutic applications such as:
Chronic Pain
Drug Free, Painless Childbirth
Relaxation and Stress Control
Better Athletic Performance
Grief and Emotional Pain
Exam Anxiety
Impotence & Premature Ejaculation
Nail Biting and Bad Habits
