REFLEXOLOGY



 

Reflexology is a popular and relaxing holistic treatment based on the principal that reflex points on the soles, tops, and sides of the feet are connected to corresponding areas throughout the body. In this way, the feet can be seen as a ‘map’ of the body. As it is only the feet and ankles that are worked on, the client remains otherwise fully clothed. Following the consultation process, you are invited to relax on a reclining chair or treatment couch, and offered the option of relaxing music for the session.

Reflexologists work on the reflexes with their thumbs and fingers using specialised massage techniques, said to help correct imbalances throughout the body and help release blocked energy. This helps to restore the free flow of energy and nutrients throughout the whole system.

Although the treatment is normally very relaxing, pain or discomfort may occur in some reflexes, depending on the individual. This should be regarded as a good thing, as manipulation of such spots will release blockages. Such a spot in, say, the area representing the gall bladder or small intestine, when there are no actual physical symptoms in the area, may mean that an underlying energy imbalance is being corrected by the treatment. In this way, Reflexology may be seen as a preventative treatment, and as we all know, prevention is better than cure. For this reason, a regular treatment can be regarded as an excellent form of health insurance.
